Working Together for Chorlton

Good news at last from Chorlton Community Land Trust! An update from their Chair, Simon Hooton…

After a long period of behind-the-scenes discussions and planning, we (Chorlton Community Land Trust) are pleased to announce that we are on the verge of securing a deal to save the Picture House (formerly Co-op Funeralcare) in the heart of Chorlton.

We have agreed an outline plan with Southway HousingTrust alongside our development partner Brook Finch Farmer, and have a plan of action for how to proceed with the Stayin Alive project.

There’s a  lot of work to do over the coming year to make the plan a reality, but with local energy and financial backing we can create a new venue at the heart of our district centre that:

  • Attracts jobs and businesses to help the Chorlton district centre thrive.
  • Creates an open and welcoming place where residents and visitors can enjoy time together.
  • And provides the community with a chance to have a real stake in the future of Chorlton.

We will be applying for some grant money from government and resurrecting our pledge drive (from 2019) to offer community shares to local investors.

We are holding an event later this month: please come along to show your support and find out more about our plans.

Wednesday 29th May 7.30pm

The Edge Theatre & Arts Centre, Manchester Road, Chorlton M21 9JG
