Working together for Chorlton

When someone is having a heart attack, a defibrillator will often save their life. Chorlton now has several on hand, thanks years of hard work by two local women.

A defibrillator delivers a high-energy electric shock to someone who is in cardiac arrest, jolting the heart back into its normal rhythm. A fast response – before an ambulance arrives – really can mean the difference between life and death. In an emergency situation, a 999 operator will give an entry code to open the defibrillator box, while the machine itself will guide you through the CPR process.

There’s now an ever-growing network of life-saving defibrillators in Chorlton, thanks largely to the efforts of two local women – Jenny Slee and Cath Brownhill. As well as providing the units themselves, Jenny and Cath have worked with the North West Ambulance Service to deliver free training for local people and groups.

“Chorlton has really got behind the project: we’d like to thank all the places hosting defibrillators, and the many more shops and local groups who’ve come along for the training. It all helps to make Chorlton that little bit safer for everyone.”
