A Repair Café is a free meeting place where people get together to repair things. The first Repair Café was held in Amsterdam in 2009, and since then, have grown into a global network of menders. You can read more about their history here.
The Stretford Repair is a free to use, drop in community event, run by volunteers and open to all. Visitors can attend our Repair Cafe every second Saturday of a month to learn from expert volunteers the skills to fix broken clothes, furniture, electronics, bikes, and technology.
Just turn up on the day with your broken item. The event runs from 10am-12pm, and the last repair will be booked in at 11:40am.
While volunteers are skilled in various repairs, they don’t offer a guarantee that your item can be fixed, nor will they single-handedly do the work for you! The Repair Café is all about getting people fixing things together – equally focused on sharing skills and meeting new people. You’re encouraged to stick around for a cup of tea and to chip in with advice and ideas for other visitors’ repairs.
The Stitched Up team is looking for lots of lovely people to get involved in the running of this event. If you’d like to volunteer on the day or lend/donate some tools, please get in touch
