The Council has announced another round of public consultation on how best to smarten up and improve Chorlton’s District Centre.
The Council has drafted a Public Realm Plan for the centre of Chorlton. Public realm covers streets, pavements, street furniture, signage, lighting etc – in short, it’s the outdoor bits of the centre of Chorlton.
There’s lots of background information about Chorlton in general, in order to provide context, plus an analysis of what makes Chorlton great – and not so great!
The proposals are mainly focused on three areas;
- outside the front of the library
- around the four banks
- around the junction of Sandy Lane, High Lane and Barlow Moor Road
Our Great Get Togethers have proved that Chorlton people like to make use of their outdoor space, so we welcome any moves to enable that, either through community event space and meanwhile-use, or through improving our streets for all, with better seating, lighting and paving.
The plan also includes more greening-up, with pocket parks and planters; moves to improve parking (including reducing pavement parking), better use of wide pavement, including events and activity; and more.
There are two drop-in events where you can go and see the plans and discuss your ideas with council officers
- Thursday 7 March, 3–7pm at Chorlton Central Church
- Saturday 9 March, 1–4pm at Oswald Road Primary School
You can see the plan online and have your say online too.
A plan to consider Chorlton’s social infrastructure (school and healthcare provision, community facilities etc) is being prepared. As Chorlton’s population rises (with all the new and proposed housing developments at the baths, the precinct, Ryebank Fields, the Irish Club etc etc), this work is essential.
In the meantime……
