Working Together for Chorlton

A new work of art at Chorlton tram station celebrates a unique piece of local culture: Batman, the Chorlton Tram Cat.

Batman has been a fixture on the Didsbury-bound platform in recent years, keeping travellers company and building up a large social media following.

When artist Caroline Daly was challenged to come up with a design for the station’s lift shaft, it was clear that this little black and white cat had to feature. Her wonderful mural celebrates not only Batman, but also Chorlton’s slightly wilder life, including grebes, swallows and ring-necked parakeets.

The street art project, which offers a characteristically colourful Chorlton welcome to those alighting from the tram, has been delivered in partnership through Chorlton Voice (led by Carolyn Kagan), Transport for Greater Manchester, Manchester City Council, Chorlton Community Land Trust, Chorlton Traders and others. It’s taken a while (and a lot of hard work by many people) to come to fruition, but we hope you’ll agree that it was well worth it!

Our huge thanks to everyone who helped to bring this project to life.
