Chorlton Community Cooperative

Working together for Chorlton

You may remember that we invited you to vote for local good causes to receive money from The Co-op’s Community Fund. Hundreds of you voted and here are your choices for this year – and a reminder of the difference it can make!

Chorlton is the only place in the UK where people get to choose the shortlist of local good causes, from which individual members can select their own beneficiary. As you may recall, 1% of your spend at the Co-op is donated to your chosen cause. The two Chorlton organisations chosen for 2023-24 are:

Ivygreen Allotments

The group would like to build a fully-accessible composting toilet for its community allotment. They want everyone to enjoy healthy, shared activities, and for people to grow their own fresh food.

Emmeline’s Pantry

Due to the cost of living crisis causing a rise in food bank use, the charity has a shortfall in donations and therefore needs to purchase additional food.

If you have a preference between these organisations, it’s important that you log into your Coop membership account at coop.co.uk and say where you’d like your 1% to go.

Last year's recipients

Congratulations to Chorlton Bike Deliveries, Chorlton Civic Society (formerly Chorlton Voice) and the Edge Theatre & Arts Centre

They met at the Co-op on Beech Road in November to receive their respective shares of a £8,018 payout.

Chorlton Bike Deliveries received £2,924.56

The Edge Theatre received £2,811.13

and Chorlton Civic Society received £2,282

All three are organisations doing great work in our community and this share of the pot will enable them to do more.

So please, make more use your Co-op membership and nominate your cause. See 1% of your money go to support Emmeline’s Pantry or Ivygreen Allotments in 2023-4.
